“The Board held a Public Hearing on February 12, 2025, during which a total of 32 members of the public spoke and 54 public comments were provided to the Board. Some speakers opposed the proposed amendments, citing potential negative impacts to data center development, impacts to industries related to data center development, and the potential for more stringent regulations to displace data centers to other localities. Several spoke in support of the proposed amendments, citing the importance of regulating data center development to mitigate cumulative potential adverse impacts on the environment, the residential neighborhoods, and on the quality of life; the proliferation of electrical transmission infrastructure and substations to serve new data centers; the need for greater economic diversification in the County; and the loss of land available for other uses including flex and warehouse.”
